Tom Clancy books borrow all of their drama from this background story. It is always exciting to read about two giants dueling it out. Personally, I'm glad this is no longer happening. Nonetheless, whenever I read, Clancy books takes me back to a time where this was the global political reality.

Now that the Cold War is over and a new war – with a very unconventional enemy – is beginning, who knows how writers are going to imagine it. Personally, I wish we lived in a more peaceful world.
